Workshop Facilitator
Bruce N. Griffiths

Bruce is an emotive artist searching for light and storyline. Painting traditional but semi-realism juxtaposing impressionism. He paints what he sees but more importantly he paints what he feels about what he sees. Bruce’s experience in construction underpins much of his perspective works as he adds imagination limited only by our own perceptions. Bruce has both practical & formal qualifications. Bruce is a CQU graduate, Artist In Residence Falls Creek, past McGregor & Art On The Barron tutor, prize-winning artist, exhibitor, workshop tutor & increasingly sought after for commissions, as demonstrator of watercolour fine art & workshops. Member of Toowoomba Art Society, Watercolour Society of Queensland, Watercolour Society of Victoria. Bruce is an arts teacher Toowoomba & declared Grand Champion of Paintings Toowoomba Royal Show 2022 & 2023. It was not always like that. Self-taught, Bruce will forever be indebted to his early days with world renowned Australian & overseas artists Robert Wade OAM, Robert Lovett, Greg Allen, David Taylor, Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic & Thomas Schaller.
His work can encompass many themes, works are & can be quite varied but will always come back to the pursuit of light & storyline. Subjects can be anywhere in or outside the box, take any form or shape as long as they are linked with a sense of light & reveal underlying stories transcending the postcard. He has completed nineteen solo exhibitions to date, have another two planned in 2025.
Bruce has artwork in local galleries & restaurants. He conducts structured watercolour classes for both beginners & intermediate artists locally & multiple travel workshops within Queensland. His paintings hang in England, United States, New Zealand & Australia.
Artist Statement:
“Never paint where you haven’t been & never paint what you cannot feel”.
A lifetime of fishing and spending time in the bush has instilled in Bruce a love of outdoors. His paintings reveal Australia & the stories within.
Bruce's watercolours are inspired by traditional semi-realism leaning toward impressionism.
“I paint what I see but more importantly I paint what I feel about what I see.”
There is a difference.
