Workshop Details

Saturday & Sunday the 2nd & 3rd of August 2025 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Morning tea is provided, but please bring a lunch along. A small kitchen with a sink and microwave is available on-site. This workshop is best suited for intermediate to advanced artists, based not on years of painting, but foundational skills, including wash techniques, understanding paint and water consistencies, basic colour theory knowledge, and brush control. Join us for a unique watercolour workshop that invites you to paint floral and leafy forms in new ways. It’s perfect for those ready to explore and embrace the unexpected in their art. You’ll learn the art of using negative space to craft compositions that speak as much through what isn’t painted as through what is. Annette Raff will guide you in editing your subject to create stronger, more engaging paintings using key design principles. You’ll respond intuitively to what unfolds on the paper, rather than following a fixed plan. There will also be a focus on technique including, creating beautiful wet-on-wet washes of transparent colour and deepening shadows without overworking or muddiness. You’ll learn to slow down, relax into the moment, and use harmony and rhythm to guide you, all while embracing your unique style. Day 1: · Practice ways to simplify your reference for stronger compositions. · Learn about design using shape, harmony and rhythm as our focus. And how awareness of good design can improve your artwork. · Refining techniques including wet on wet and layering washes over dry · Creating a painting that applies learned techniques and design principles Day 2: · Review techniques from Day 1 and address any challenges · Further develop your Day 1 painting or plan a new composition. · Explore ways to simplify your subject and continue creating depth in your Day 1 painting or create a new small painting · Design and simplify. Gain confidence in letting go of reality and composing with unique colour and design. There are 14 places available, so please book soon to ensure your spot. Time: 9 am (for 9.30 start) to 4 pm each day Cost: $200 for members for both days $250 for non-members for both days Please pay via the website during booking.
